Alex Hines is a multi award winning comedian, actor, and writer known for her unique comedic style combining theatre, stand-up, music and character across stage and screen.
Alex exploded onto the Australian comedy scene with her solo show To Schapelle And Back, winning the Golden Gibbo - Best Independent Work (MICF, 2022). Since her debut, her work has continued to garner critical acclaim. Putting On A Show (Arts Centre Melbourne) received the prestigious Moosehead Award (MICF), was nominated for Best Writing, and won Most Outstanding Production Design at the 2025 Green Room Awards. The show toured internationally, with Alex named one of The Very Best of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by Fest Magazine (2024). Alex has been platformed by the biggest acts in the country, opening for Hannah Gadsby, Aunty Donna (twice), as well as performing on Aaron Chen & Friends.
In 2025, the ABC named Alex “Your Favourite Comedians Favourite Comedian”, after the success of her sell out solo show Girl Culture (Malthouse Theatre, MICF). Later that year, Alex’s collaboration with Sarah Stafford, BIRDS - a camp, absurdist theatre work - won Best Comedy, the QLD Touring Award, and Judges’ Picks for both Theatre and Comedy at the Melbourne Fringe.
Her fantastical character work has earnt a cult following and industry recognition with solo show Juniper Wilde: Juniper Rising selling out its season and winning the Green Room Award for Best Performer (2023). Alex’s digital show, Juniper Wilde: Wilde Night In, won the Green Room Award for Best Production (Digital) in 2022 and was awarded Best Feminist Work, Best Emerging Artist, and the New Zealand Touring Award (Melbourne Fringe, 2021).
On screen, Alex co-wrote, and starred in the series Dee-Brief (Channel 10). She has appeared in multiple Grouse House productions including Aunty Donna’s Most Upsetting Guessing Game, Crafternoon, History Untold and Special Interest Quiz. Earlier this year, Alex collaborated on Hannah Gadsby’s stand-up special Woof! as the Additional Art Director.
As a voice actor, Alex has worked on two seasons of Fitzroy Diaries (ABC Radio National) and the Canadian animated series I Love Night Drives (2020).
An experienced MC, Alex has hosted a variety of events including the MIFF Short Film Awards, Cinema Nova CineTrivia, ACMI film nights and the beloved Lip Sync Battle (MICF).
